When I was younger I always battled with the idea of how things were created from nothing. I still think about it from time to time. I still find myself trying to at least partially understand this. Ever so often I get this ‘ah-ha’ sparkling moment where it seems like I finally ‘get it’ and then the moment is abruptly over…it’s as if it never happened. …He calls things that are not as though they were, as though they really do exist in our present. What does that really mean!?
God called Abraham what he ‘WAS NOT’ as though ‘HE WERE’! Was God hallucinating?
It’s just like what happened with Abraham… God called him a father before he had a child of his own. He called Abraham what he ‘was not’ as though ‘he were’. I’ll say that again… He called Abraham what he ‘WAS NOT’ as though ‘HE WERE’! Was God hallucinating? Was He seeing things? Well, yes, He was! He saw something that didn’t exist outside of the human mind. Remember, He doesn’t dwell in time, He dwells in eternity! He sees it all, He knows it all…! That’s why He can call you a Doctor even though you’re penniless and making Ds, that’s why He can call you a Chef even though you don’t know the first thing about cutting a bell pepper or tomato, that’s why He can call you a Lifeguard even though you’re afraid of water, that’s why He called Abraham a Father even though he was miserably unsuccessful at having a child for years! That’s why my dear friends…that’s why. 🙂
With that said, I encourage you not to live on the basis of what you see, not to live based on what you failed to accomplish but based on what God said He would do, based on what He has told you.
Trust your “hallucinating” God. He sees it all. He knows it all.
Romans 4:17 …even God, who… calleth those things which be not as though they were. (KJV)
